Regina Richards

American singer/songwriter, born Regina Marie Cuttita, on April 22, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York. Better known as [a=Regina (2)].

Attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, majoring in theater. Using the stage name of Regina Richards, formed her own new wave/rock band in 1977, Regina Richards And Red Hot, in New York, and signed with A&M Records via Richard Gottehrer, releasing one album in 1981. As that band dissolved, recorded as Regina Richards only, and planned to release a 1982 album, which never materialized. Then focused on being a songwriter only, writing for other artists, and recording demos with former Red Hot bandmate [a=Stephen Bray], in [l=The Music Building] in Manhattan, where they worked with Madonna at the onset of her career, and other artists. They co-wrote "Baby Love," intending to sell to Madonna or another artist (and a version by [a=The Star Sisters] was the first version released, in 1985), but Atlantic Records requested that Richards record the song herself. Thus became a solo artist in 1986, billed as "Regina," and scored an international hit with Baby Love (#10 on Billboard Hot 100), which was included on her album Curiosity. Released additional singles in the late 1980s, and recorded a follow-up album, "Best Kept Secret," but it was never released. Released one more single in 1990 on Centurion Records, which did not chart. Sought a new publishing deal, but then retired from the music business.

Married pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Lee on October 20, 1990, in New York (becoming Regina Marie Lee), and they have four children. Relocated to Augusta, Georgia, in 1994. Currently resides in Austin, Texas.

In November 2025, re-recorded her hit, Baby Love, with the original musicians and producers.
