Chris Johnson (43)

American trombonist, horn section arranger, and brass instruments teacher, based in Los Angeles. Born in Inglewood, California.

Johnson earned a Bachelors degree in music performance from the the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, where he studied with jazz trumpeter Clark Terry.

He earned a Master of Music degree in jazz studies from Northern Illinois University, where he studied with jazz educator Ronald Carter, Tom Garling and briefly with Wycliffe Gordon.

Johnson returned to Los Angeles in 2013 and began working as a freelance studio musician and horn arranger.

He leads his own group, The Chris Johnson Experience, and has has performed, recorded and toured with artists such as Beyoncé, Jay Z, Ceelo Green, Monica, Stevie Wonder, Clark Terry, Raphael Saadiq, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Jamie Foxx, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary Mary, Ledisi, Cardi B, Aloe Blacc, The Brandon Brown Collective, Jennifer Hudson, Solange Knowles, Macy Gray, and others.
