Fred Wise

American songwriter (mostly lyricist).

Born May 27, 1915 in New York, New York, USA.

Died January 18, 1966 in New York, New York, USA. Married to [a=Elaine Rivers] ([a=Elaine Wise]).

Wise wrote many of the songs Elvis Presley performed in films. Often collaborated with [a=Randy Starr], [a=Ben Weisman (2)], [a=Edward Thomas (3)] or [a661426]. Wise had at least 36 of his songs recorded by Elvis.

Wise was also a practicing psychologist, though he began writing songs while in college. He was a member of ASCAP for 25 years and graduated from Columbia University. Wise received a Ph.D. in psychology at Columbia University in 1957. He worked in the publicity department of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the film company after college.
