Harley Allen

Harley Allen (born January 23, 1956, Dayton, Ohio, USA - died March 30, 2011, Brentwood, Tennessee, USA) was an American country singer and songwriter. He was the son of well-known bluegrass performer [a953871], and the brother of [a1932773], [a5274047] and [a=Neal Allen]. Married to singer [a=Debbie Nims]. Allen was lead singer and guitar player for [a=The Allen Brothers (2)] and later part of [a=Harley Allen-Mike Lilly Band]. After a move to Nashville, Allen worked as a songwriter placing tunes with artists like Alan Jackson, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks, Allison Krauss, George Jones, John Michael Montgomery, Ricky Skaggs, and others. In 2005, he was named BMI Songwriter of the Year. Allen also won Grammys in 2000 as part of the trio that recorded “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” for the soundtrack of [i]O Brother Where Art Thou[/i] and in 2003 for a duet with Dierks Bentley on a tribute to the Louvin Brothers. He recorded for the Folkways, Vetco, Mercury and American Originals labels.
