James Cavanaugh

American songwriter and author.

Born October 29, 1892 in New York City, New York, USA.

Died August 18, 1967 in New York City, New York, USA.

Best known for songs "Mississippi Mud" (1927, made popular by Bing Crosby), "Crosstown" (1940, co-written with John Redmond), and "The Gaucho Serenade" (title track of the soundtrack to the Gene Autry 1940 movie Gaucho Serenade). Other popular songs of his include "I Like Mountain Music", "You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You" and "Christmas in Killarney".

Early in his career, Cavanaugh was a writer in vaudeville.
