Walter Vinson

Country blues singer and guitarist.

Born: February 2, 1901 near Bolton, Mississippi

Died: April 22, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois

Walter Vinson, the Chatmon's ([a=Bo Chatman], [a=Lonnie Chatman] and [a=Sam Chatmon]) neighbor, erroneously known as "Walter Vincson" and "[a=Walter Vincent]", sometimes recorded as "[a=Walter Jacobs (2)]" (using his mother's maiden name).

Vinson recorded extensively 1929-1941, often with [a=Mississippi Sheiks] or with musicians from that circle. He recorded again for Riverside in 1961, and as a member of The New [a=Mississippi Sheiks] in 1972. Mostly inactive due to illness in his last years.
