M.I. Abaga

Jude Lemfani Abaga, professionally known as M.I Abaga, is a pioneering force in African hip-hop. He broke into mainstream success with his debut album Talk About It (2008), which sold over 30,000 copies in 30 minutes—a historic feat in Nigerian music. His follow-up, MI2, remains Nigeria’s best-selling hip-hop album, solidifying his legacy as one of the continent’s most commercially successful rappers.

Known for his punchline-heavy delivery and genre-blending sound, M.I has consistently evolved—mentoring emerging artists and experimenting with new styles. His 2018 dual releases Rendezvous and Yxng Dxnzl earned critical acclaim for pushing sonic and thematic boundaries, particularly around mental health and identity.

In 2022, he returned with The Guy, a star-studded album featuring Nas, Olamide, BNXN, The Cavemen, and Wande Coal, reaffirming his cultural relevance and streaming power.

In 2025, M.I unveiled Mr. Fantastic, a bold, introspective anthem that marks the start of a new era, leading into his upcoming body of work, THE WOLF. M.I Abaga remains a defining voice in African rap—artistically fearless, culturally significant, and sonically unmatched.
