Jay Kim
Jay Kim is a Korean saxophonist, composer, producer, vocalist, and music director whose work moves across funk, soul, R&B, jazz, and contemporary Korean music.
After beginning his recording career as a member of the R&B duo URBANO, he founded and has led the funk-soul band COMMON GROUND since its debut in 2004. Alongside his work with the band, Jay Kim has developed a wide-ranging solo catalogue built around expressive saxophone playing, groove-driven production, and cinematic storytelling.
His solo releases include the albums Tenderness, Perfect Experience, and Sound of Life, as well as songs such as “Seoulful Night,” “Happy Together,” and “@o4world.” His recordings reflect influences ranging from smooth jazz and urban R&B to horn-driven funk and soul.
Beyond his own releases, Jay Kim has worked extensively as a music director for television, film, theatre, musicals, and major cultural events. His credits include SNL Korea and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
He has also contributed as a saxophonist and arranger to recordings and performances by numerous Korean artists, while continuing to produce new solo projects, COMMON GROUND releases, and emerging artists.
