Rema
Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, first captured the spotlight when his viral car freestyles caught the eye of Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy, leading to a record deal in 2019. The young talent from Benin City quickly made his mark with his breakout global hit "Dumebi," setting the stage for one of the most remarkable success stories in Afrobeats history.
Building on this explosive momentum, Rema dropped his multi-platinum debut album, *Rave & Roses*, in March 2022. This project launched him into the stratosphere of international fame and billions of streams, driven largely by its massive second single, "Calm Down." The track transformed into a worldwide phenomenon following a 2022 remix featuring Selena Gomez. It soared to #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100—setting a new benchmark as the highest-charting Afrobeats track in history—and holds the record for the longest reign atop the US Afrobeats Songs chart.
Fast forward to 2024, Rema delivered his second album, *HEIS*, a project that sparked intense debate yet garnered widespread critical praise. *HEIS* shattered Spotify records for the highest first-day streams for a Nigerian album at the time, quickly becoming one of the platform's top-streamed Nigerian projects of the year. Ultimately, the album secured Rema his first Grammy nod for Best Global Music Performance, firmly cementing his legacy as a defining architect of modern African music.
