Fred Hammond

Gospel singer, producer, and bass player born Dec. 27, 1960 in Detroit, MI (USA). His father died when he was young, and his mother, Mildred, raised him and kept him in church. She also bought him his first bass guitar, a Norma. Once he mastered it, she bought him a Fender Precision. Hammond began singing for his church's choir when he was 12 years old. As a teenager he played with a group called "Saved", along with [a1119122] and [a1008356]. They were offered a record deal by [a435942] but it never materialized. Hammond earned a spot playing bass for [a105452] in 1980. In 1982 he and his partners from "Saved" formed [a350132] and eventually signed to [l54361]. In 1994 Hammond formed The [a598023] Choir. He eventually disbanded the choir and just recorded under his name.
