Wakadinali
Wakadinali, also known as "Rong Rende," is a prominent Kenyan hip-hop trio hailing from the Eastlands area of Nairobi. Formed in 2013, the group consists of rappers Domani Munga, Scar Mkadinali, and Sewersydaa.
Initially rising through the ranks as an underground act, the group gained significant mainstream momentum around 2020. They are widely recognized for their gritty, authentic lyrical style that captures life in Nairobi's urban settlements, often blending elements of drill, trap, and Gengetone with heavy doses of local street slang (Sheng).
Their breakthrough is largely attributed to their 2020 album, *Victims of Madness*, which explored themes such as police brutality, crime, and the struggles of inner-city youth, challenging public perceptions of these topics. The group has since established themselves as a dominant force in the Kenyan music scene; they were the most-streamed artists in Kenya on Spotify in 2023 and have received consistent acclaim for their prolific output of albums and hit singles. Their influence has been described as a "hip-hop renaissance" in Nairobi, rooted in their ability to resonate with the experiences of ordinary Kenyan youth.
